Quatman's Cafe

Review #5 @ Stop #5
Quatman’s Café
2434 Quatman Ave (Norwood)
513.731.4370

No doubt about it – Quatman’s Café is a Cincinnati institution. This neighborhood tavern with wood booths, basic tables with the red and white checkered table cloths, and a wood bar area on one side is a very popular lunch spot for many people.

Another no doubter – These burgers (served with onions, pickles, and potato chips) are large and reasonably priced ($3.75). Many proclaim that Quatman’s burgers put Zip’s burgers to shame. The Burger Guys agree, but so what? That’s like the Reds proclaiming the pennant after a fifth place finish ahead of the Pirates. The bottom line: the Cincinnati Burger Guys are raising the bar!

Because of their high number of lunchtime diners, Quatman’s is known for its fast service; however, this allowed the team to notice a glaring mistake. Although the orders were placed at the same time, one arrived within minutes signaling advance preparation. There’s no way fresh meat cooks that fast. To top off the situation, the second order arrived minutes later and seemed warmer than the first. Since Freddie had been there several times before, this event was new.

Nothing fancy here: No distinguishing seasoning in the meat, no special bun or treatment – Just a thick, juicy, but basic burger served on a standard bun in a neighborhood setting. Although it may be smokier than some prefer, we highly recommend the tavern ambiance and the tradition, so arrive early for lunch; but, better burgers exist in the area.

We agree here, Quatmans is just a big basic burger, probably too big, nothing special, I can only assume that people growing up in the area, ate there from the beginning and just became accustomed to its tastes and never have really attempted to give any other burgers a chance, so they claim its the best, but not even close.

I have not tried burgers at most of the places cited on this blog, but I find Quatman's to be the best I've ever tasted. Three reasons: simplicity (echoing another comment), flavor of the meat, and the unprententious location. If I can't eat a burger in my mom's kitchen, then I want to eat one at Quatman's.

Where else can you eat the best meal of your life on a paper plate other than Quatman Cafe? The combination of salty shoestring french fries, a fresh white onion and what must be melted velveeta cheese atop the juicy burger is truly a celebration for your mouth. It's a Cincinnati masterpiece and should be scored a 10!

The "Burger Guys" seem a little uppity to me. Snobbish? They don't want to wait 20 minutes for a burger to cook? Sorry guys...those of us with real jobs don't have time to wait for that half pounder to cook. We want it good and fast. You guys seem to have lots touch with reality. I guess hanging out with nothing to do while you're at work will do that.

Quatman is the best family tradition you could find in Ohio. Few places could be found to have the same owners for 40+ years. Regardless of what your eating,a burger, hot ham and chesse, or just meeting friends for a cold one the Norwood tradition is the place to be. The specials are not to be messed with, the BBQ on Weds. to die for, homemade chili you cant find any better. Visit, and enjoy ALL it has to offer.

These hamburgers are the best in the city. Zip's, Bar Louie, and Terry's Turf Club take a back seat to these 1/2 lb.s behemouths.
The meat is fresh daily and is not made ahead of time.I remember when this place was Gribble's. The mock turtle soup is also very good as is the chili.
Now Mason gets a taste of the Quatman Burger. Give these a try and you will see how good they are.

A lot of the comments here for this being the best burger are obviously from locals, and some even said they have never tried hardly any other good burgers in the area, so right there tell's you something, how can you rate a burger & compare it with the best in town, when you have not even tried the best in town, & My group totally agree with the Burger guys, this burger was too thick for us, too much meat, had no flavor to it at all, & simplicity, that's great, but simple must still taste good, I could roll up a glob of meat in my hands & throw it on my skillet at home & it tastes better than this thing, another situation of locals not trying other places & trying to bring up the ratings of this burger on review sites around town, I would never try this one again, it's that bad.
